Conversation on Foster Care with Cris Beam

Cris Beam

We are very pleased to invite you to join You Gotta Believe! and The Children’s Aid Society for a special conversation on foster care with author Cris Beam on Wednesday, February 5.

Her acclaimed book, To the End of June: The Intimate Life of American Foster Care, was hailed by The New York Times as “a triumph of narrative reporting and storytelling.”

Hosted by The Children’s Aid Society, the discussion will focus on the unique challenges faced by teens in foster care and what it will take to improve the system. In addition to a reading and discussion with Cris, You Gotta Believe’s own Mary Keane will moderate a panel discussion with teens, foster parents and staff. Mary has been with YGB 12 years and is our Senior Family Permanency Advocate and Director of LGBT Services. She started her journey as a foster parent 14 years ago and ultimately adopted (morally and/or legally) 13 youth! There is even a chapter of Cris Beam’s book devoted to the story of Mary and her extraordinary family. It is sure to be a very meaningful discussion.

Whether you are new to these issues or a longtime professional, this will be an important conversation. Join us – add your voice!
